Air passenger tax – Do the authorities have control?

The Air passenger tax was implemented with effect from 1 June this year. After three months, only 23 airlines have registered for the tax. The Tax authorities are now sending letters to companies they believe should be registered as liable. These companies should therefore act quickly to avoid getting too long behind with payments.

Air passenger excise duty will be introduced in two weeks

13 May, the Norwegian Ministry of Finance decided that an air passenger excise duty will be introduced as planned from 1 June 2016, i.e. only two weeks from now. It is thus necessary for the airlines comprised by the passenger tax to act fast to make sure that systems for collecting and reporting the tax are in place from 1 June.

Intra-group transactions under scrutiny by the customs authorities

Norwegian customs authorities has developed an aggressive approach to transfer pricing adjustments, and importers are adviced to examine the customs treatment of such adjustments closely. Attention should also be paid to other intra-group charges, such as management fees and allocation of central costs.
