Jeg heter Synne Hangeland og jeg jobber som advokatfullmektig i Advokatfirmaet PwC. Til daglig jobber jeg med å bistå næringsdrivende med rådgivning om merverdiavgift. Jeg har jobbet med merverdiavgift siden 2013, og bistår både nasjonale og internasjonale selskaper. Merverdiavgift er et område med stadige lovendringer og et komplisert regelverk. Målet mitt er derfor å spre kunnskap og gi gode og nyttige råd.

Special payroll tax for the financial sector in Norway?

On May 4, the Government and the opposition parties announced that they aim to present a new tax for the financial sector when the national budget for 2017 is presented. The Government has not yet commented on what kind of tax this will be, but according to sources the Norwegian newspaper Dagens Næringsliv has talked to, the new tax for the financial sector will be formed after the current special payroll tax model in Denmark (in Danish: “lønnssumsavgift”)

Air passenger excise duty will be introduced in two weeks

13 May, the Norwegian Ministry of Finance decided that an air passenger excise duty will be introduced as planned from 1 June 2016, i.e. only two weeks from now. It is thus necessary for the airlines comprised by the passenger tax to act fast to make sure that systems for collecting and reporting the tax are in place from 1 June.

New VAT return from 2017 – simplifications for the VAT liable businesses?

From 2017, a new VAT return form called “Skattemelding for merverdiavgift” will replace the current VAT return form in Norway. The main reason for changing the VAT return is that import VAT shall be reported in the VAT return from 2017, instead of paid on importation. However, the changes entail that all VAT liable businesses in Norway will have to update their ERP systems and VAT codes.

VAT exemption for electronic news services – expansion from 1 March 2016

As from 1 March 2016, the supply of electronic news services are VAT zero-rated in Norway. The zero-rating comprise all media that mainly contain news and current affairs, regardless of the platform used to distribute the news. News published on computers, mobile phones, tablets, radio and television are thus comprised by the exemption.
